Daniel T. Long Obituary

Daniel Thomas Long, 63, of Kingston, passed away on January 4, 2017, after a six-month battle with cancer. He was born in Bethesda, Md., to the late Roy Long and Frances Long (Zikorus). Dan grew up in Needham where he married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Vellali. They spent many years living on the Cape before moving to Pembroke with their two children. He and Sherry had just moved to Kingston two years ago. Dan spent most of his career in sales - automotive and realty, and also helped coach his childrens sports teams as they were growing up. Dan loved being around the water and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed cooking, landscaping, carpentry and grocery shopping. He was a fervent Patriots fan with a great sense of humor. He is probably haunting Roger Goodell at this very moment. Dan leaves behind a devoted family and many friends. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Sherry (Vellali) Long of Kingston; his son Matthew Long of Kingston; his daughter Chrissy Lynch (Long) of Quincy, her husband Kevin Lynch and their children Holly and Shane (Dans grandchildren). He was the brother of David Long of Natick and Davids wife Beverly; brother of the late Richard Long of Needham and Richards widow Ginny; he was the brother-in-law of Victor Vellali of Medfield and his wife Lauren; and brother-in-law of Lisa Vellali of Boca Raton, Florida. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Kelly (Long) Champoux, Karen (Long) Costello, Wesley Long and Carl Vellali. Dan was the stepson of the late Alfred Lussier. There will be a visitation at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte. 53, in Hanover, on Monday, January 9, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, January 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews church, 17 Church St., in Hanover, followed by a reception.
