I think Richard went into the military service before graduation. I found this in a look-up but could not obtain further info.

Rick shared a locker with me at Pollard. As long as I kept a secret that he had cigarettes in the locker, he would "protect" me when needed. I never had to call in the "protection" offer, but his secret of smoking in the 9th grade was safe with me, until now!
